Agartala, Mar 30: The low cost airlines have decided to withdraw their services from Tripura soon following a drop in the frequency of flights.

According to Airport Authority of India officials here, Deccan, a merger of Kingfisher and Air Deccan, will withdraw its operations on Delhi-Agartala route via Kolkata from next month while Air India's Kolkata-Delhi flight at 0835 hours has already been axed. The decision would also hit services along Bhubaneswar, Agartala and Imphal routes, officials said adding that only 21 flights operate on Kolkata-Bhubaneswar and Kolkata-Agartala routes each every week, a plunge from 46 and 56 in 2006 respectively. Flights on the Kolkata-Imphal sector have dropped to 18 from 35 and if Jet Airways also stops operations on this sector, the number would fall to 11.

Meanwhile, Jet Airways has also reduced its Kolkata-Guwahati and Kolkata-Imphal flights to help JetLite.
