Fernandes asks India to boycott Beijing Olympics, Chinese goods

New Delhi, Mar 30 (UNI) Former Defence Minister George Fernandes has called for an international boycott of Chinese goods, and urged India to stay away from the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

''Yes, I am serious. I mean it because that is the way China could be told (that) what's happening in their country and the rest of the world should not have happened,'' he told CNN-IBN's programme Devil's Advocate in an interview.

Asked if India should boycott the Olympics, Mr Fernandes said: ''Both...the Olympics and Chinese goods''.

''I am serious but whether our Government will do it is another thing.'' Asked if he was not scared of inviting the wrath of many people on his head, the Defence Minister said: ''I care for my country''.
