Bangkok, Mar 30: The Thai capital joined 23 other cities across the world by turning out lights last night as part of Earth Hour-- a global campaign to raise awareness about climate change. Major landmarks in the city, including popular flood-lit historical tourist spots, big malls, public buildings and bridges turned off lights for an hour starting 2000 hrs local time. The Earth Hour which began in Sydney, was estimated to have reduced the daily electricity consumption in Bangkok by 165 mega watts and prevented 102 tonnes of atmospheric carbon dioxide emissions.
