AIMC hopeful to table Women's Reservation Bill
Jaipur, Mar 30 (UNI) The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) was hopeful of tabling the Women's Reservation Bill in the second phase of the current budget session of Parliament, the organisation president and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Prabha Thakur said.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh are making efforts for persuading the UPA allies over the Bill and ensuring introduction of the Bill in the House during the second phase of the current budget session of Parliament, Ms Thakur told reporters here today.
Ms Thakur said Ms Gandhi and Mr Singh were having strong resolve for early passage of the Bill and a delegation of women MPs also met Ms Gandhi recently to urge the early passage of the Bill.
She alleged that the Opposition BJP and its NDA allies were indulged in double speak over the issue. During the NDA government rule, Ms Gandhi had assured unconditional support for the passage of the Bill but the Vajapyee Government could not even introduce it in the House.
Replying a question, Ms Thakur said the Congress would give maximum possible tickets to women in the next assembly elections in Rajasthan due to be held by November this year.
