Workers at major ports to receive interim relief
Mumbai, Mar 29 (UNI) Following a decision by the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee (BWNC), port and dock workers of all major ports will receive 13.5 per cent of their basic pay by way of interim relief with effect from January 1, 2007.
Under the BWNC agreement, each worker or employee will be granted an interim relief from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 of basic pay with minimum arrears payable on account of interim relief upto March 31, 2008 at Rs 7,500 and maximum at Rs 23,850 pending finalisation of the wage settlement on the charter of demands submitted to the Indian Ports Association (IPA) by five recognised federations of ports and dock workers, a release said.
