Three arrested in BJP activist's murder case

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 29 (UNI) City Police arrested three people in connection with the murder of Tiruvarur District Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) Secretary Manickam and his 75-year-old father which took place at Maruthanallur village near Tiruvarur on March 4.

Police said Jayakumar (24), Pallu Kumar alias Kumar (24) and Anand alias Chinna Anand, all hailing from Tiruchirapalli city, were arrested from a hide-out near Samayapuram in the outskirts of the city last night.

They were remanded to judicial custody today, police added.

It may be recalled that Manickam (35) and his father were intercepted by a 20-member gang at Maruthanallur, who attacked them severely and fled from the scene, while they were returning from Kumbakonam to their residence at Harithuvaramangalam, in a car. Nine people were arrested in connection with the murder.
