Six dead, 16 injured in building collapse, MCD orders inquiry
New Delhi, Mar 29 (UNI) Six people were killed and 16 injured when a four-storeyed building which was under construction in East Delhi collapsed this morning, fire brigade officials said.
Several labourers were buried under the debris of the building in the Seelampur area of East Delhi, which collapsed during construction at 0730 hrs, fire officials said.
A total of 22 labourers were extricated from the debris, of which six died while 16 others were injured.
About five to six fire service engines were engaged in rescue operations.
The injured had been admitted to nearby hospitals, fire officials added.
They said the toll was likely to go up as several other labourers were still trapped under the debris.
Meanwhile, the Municipal corporation of Delhi has suspended Assistant Engineer B D Sharma and Junior Engineer Pradeep Kumar who were overseeing the construction work.
A vigilance inquiry has been ordered to look into the reasons for the building collapse.
