NGO demands Goa AG's removal

Panaji, Mar 29 (UNI) The non-governmental organisation, Utt Goenkara, today demanded that Goa Governor S C Jamir should immediately sack Advocate General Subodh Kantak in public interest since the huge fee paid to him was ''burdening the exchequer''.

Utt Goenkara spokesman Aires Rodrigues, speaking to mediapersons here today, also demanded a probe into the bills submitted by Kantak and recovery of all excess amount paid to him.

Mr Rodrigues said there was an urgent need to revise and rationalise the fee paid to Goa's Advocate General and bring it in line with other states.

He also demanded that the Goa Government should explain as to why Kantak is the highest paid Advocate General in the country. Citing an example, he said the Gujarat Advocate General is being paid Rs 700 per day per case but the Goa Advocate General was receiving Rs 8000 per case per day. Maharashtra Advocate General is paid Rs 5000 per case to a maximum of Rs 7000 per day irrespective of the number of cases he appears on that day.
