Meghalaya govt asks miners to preserve environment
Shillong, Mar 29 (UNI) The Meghalaya government today directed miners and cement plants owners in the state to adopt environmental conservation measures and ensure scientific mining.
Addressing the valedictory North East Mine Environment and Mineral Conservation Week 2007-08, Chief Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee asked the miners to adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the state government to ensure environmental conservation while extracting mineral resources in the state.
Mr Chatterjee said the resources should be judiciously extracted to ensure that future generation could also utilise it.
The Chief Secretray also appealed to cement plants owners and mine owners to provide proper healthcare to miners.
