Shivpuri (MP), Mar 29: Undergo vasectomy to get gun licence. This dictum worked to attract many men to undergo family planning operation at the district hospital here yesterday.

Of the 22 people, who underwent operation yesterday, 19 applied for gun licence and they would be granted it after a brief scrutiny. Carrying gun is considered a status symbol in the dacoit-infested Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Medical Officer Dr Dinesh Kaushal said there was heavy rush of villagers to the camp even in the night and they would be operated upon today. ''Arrangements had been made in the camp to accept applications for gun licence'', he admitted.
