Eight people, including two police constables injured
Hubli, Mar 29(UNI) About eight people, including two police constables, were injured when rival groups clashed over old enmity in Yattiangudda village on the outskirts of Dharwad city around midnight last night.
Police said today that old rivalry between two families of the village led to the incident and the injured have been shifted to district hospital Dharwad and Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences here.
The trouble started on the concluding day of Durga Devi Fair in the village when members of Chandra Tegur family assembled and attacked the members of Parasannavar family with a gun and deadly weapons around midnight.
Both groups indulged in group clash attacking each other and fire was opened from the gun. Police, who arrived on the scene and tried control the situation, were also attacked with stones and chilly powder.
Deputy Commissioner of Police D Prakash and police inspector Sakri also received injuries. The inspector has been admitted to SDM college Hospital.
Police have rounded up about 20 people in connection with the alleged attack.
Senior police officials including Commissioner of Police Narayan Nadamani visited the village where the situation was stated to be tense but under control.
