APCC Chief discusses bypoll strategy with CPI leaders
Hyderabad, Mar 29 (UNI) In the wake of the likely bypoll for 16 Assembly constituencies and four Lok Sabha seats, which fell vacant after the resignation of Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) MLAs and MPs, in May, the new Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President D Srinivas today met the Communist Party of India(CPI) State leaders at its party office Makdum Bhavan tonight.
According to party sources here, Mr Srinivas had a detailed discussion about the strategy to be adopted by the Congress and the CPI to secure majority in the bypoll with the CPI Deputy General Secretary and MP S Sudhakar Reddy and the State Secretary K Narayana. The APCC Chief urged the CPI to extend its support to the Congress, as it would be crucial for the party on Telangana issue.
The CPI had already extended its support for seperate Telangana in its recenlty concluded 20th National Congress here. The Congress and the CPI forged an alliance in 2004 Assembly election.
The Congress had already started negotiating with the CPI High Command, albeit informally, to forge an alliance for the Lok Sabha poll in 2009.
