11th Plan to focus on quality education: UGC Chairman
Puducherry, Mar 29 (UNI) University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Sukhadeo Thorat today said the 11th plan would take a major initiative for quality improvement in higher education.
Addressing the 18th annual convocation at the Pondicherry Central University here, he said focus would be on improving the quality of academic and physical infrastructure.
''If education lacks quality it will limit the potential of creativity and innovation,'' Mr Thorat.
Pointing out the lack of physical infrastructure in colleges, he said as per the NAAC assessment only ten per cent of the colleges come under 'A' grade. About one fourth of the state universities were not recognised under 2(F) and 12(B), he added.
