Sonia to visit TN on April 5

Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will pay a day's visit to Tamil Nadu on April 5.

During her visit, she would participate in the Farmers' and Women's rally organised by the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and inaugurate a library building at the Alagppa University in Karaikudi, in which Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram would also participate.

She was likely to reach Tiruchirapalli by air and leave for Karaikudi by a helicopter, TNCC President M Krishnasamy told UNI here today.

''Initially we thought of having the rally at Tiruchirapalli. Since she has given a date for the Alagappa University function, we decided to have the rally at Karaikudi itself,'' he said.

To a question, he said ''as of now there are no plans of Ms Gandhi meeting Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi during her visit.'' Mr Krishnasamy said that to make her visit to the State a historic occasion, the TNCC had convened a consultative meeting of the MLAs and MPs at the party headquarters 'Sathyamurthy Bhavan' on March 30.
