Rupee ends below 40 at 39.90, appreciates by 18 paise per USD

Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) The Rupee today closed at Rs 39.90 against the US dollar with a handsome gain of nearly by 18 paise from its last close at 40.10/11 following bullish trend on the Indian bourses and heavy selling in dollars in the forex market.

The local unit fluctuated in a wide range band of 39.85 and 40.15 per dollar before closing upward in late trading session amidst selling of dollars.

The Reserve Bank of India fixed the reference rate for the USD today at Rs 40.10, down five paise as compared to yesterday's rate.

Meanwhile, the six-month premium was quoted higher at 2.20/22 (2.16/18) per cent and annualised premium appreciated at 1.55/56 (1.50/52) per cent.

The Rupee closed lower at 62.85/87 (62.03/05) against the Euro.

It ended firm at 79.42/44 (80.56/58) per unit against the Pound Sterling and closed high at 39.80/82 (40.13/15) per hundred units against the Japanese Yen.
