Karnataka polls before May 28, says CEC
Chennai, Mar 28 (UNI) asserting the Election Commission has decided to hold elections to the Karnataka Assembly before May 28, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalswamy today said an official announcement in this regard would be made in the next couple of days.
Talking to reporters after reviewing the progress of delimitation of constituencies in Tamil Nadu with State Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta here, he said elections to the Karnataka Assembly would be held before May 28.
''We are collecting details of the total police force needed and the requirements of the total number of polling stations for holding the polls.
Once we complete this exercise, the election dates will be announced...We will announce it in the next couple of days,'' he added.
Mr Gopalswamy said henceforth all future elections, including the next Parliamentary polls, would be held on the basis of delimitation of constituencies.
However, byelections would be held on the basis of the present list of constituencies.
He said the draft rolls after inclusion of names on the basis of delimitation of constituencies would be released on July one and the final rolls on August 31.
