Jail officer arrested for accepting bribe in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 28 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir state Vigilance Organisation caught a jail officer red handed while accepting bribe from a complainant to meet his son imprisoned in the district jail here, official sources said today.

The sleuths of state Vigilance Organisation caught one Muneer Hussain, Assistant Superintendent, District Jail, Ambphalla, Jammu, while accepting a bribe of Rs 5000 for allowing the complainant to meet his son.

''Beant Singh, resident of Nanak Nagar here, lodged a written report with Vigilance Organisation alleging that his son Rajinder Singh is lodged in District Jail, Ambphalla, Jammu, for about eight months for his involvement in some criminal case,'' sources told UNI.

''The jail officer, who is in-charge for allowing the meetings of inmates with their visitors, was harassing him and did not allow him to meet his son,'' sources added.

The complainant, however, yesterday again requested the said Assistant Superintendent to allow him to meet his son, but the officer demanded Rs 5000 as bribe for the permission, sources said.

He has been taken into custody for further investigation.
