Chandigarh, Mar 28 (UNI) Amid a walkout by the Opposition Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the Haryana Assembly today censured former Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala for making false statements during the ongoing budget session on the issue of short and long-term loanswaiver schemes, first in 1988-89 and then in 1990.

During 1988-89, Chaudhary Devi Lal was the chief minister and in 1990 Mr Chautala was the Deputy Chief Minister.

The censure motion was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala when a House Committee report on the 1988-89 state loan waiver and the 1990 central loan waiver scheme was presented in the Assembly.

The report was tabled by Education and Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta, the Chairman of the House Committee.

As soon as the report was tabled, Dr Sita Ram (INLD) was on his feet claiming that it was biased and misleading. He was joined by party colleagues Sushil Indora, Ishwar Singh Plaka and Shahida Khan, who said that the Committee did not hear Mr Chautala before finalising its report.

The INLD members stalled the proceedings advancing to the well of the House, compelling Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian to adjourn the House twice for short intervals. He even named Mr Indora, as a result the member had to leave the House for a brief period.

The motion, censuring Mr Chautala was adopted by voice vote by the House as the INLD members trooped out of the House. Mr Chautala, a sitting member, was not present in the House.

Later, talking to mediapersons, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the people of Haryana should know that Mr Chautala had been misleading them by making false statements.

Mr Chautala should try to correct himself, he added, while pointing out that it was perhaps for the first time that a member had been censured by the state Assembly.
