Govt to examine proposal to constitute 'lok adalats'
Panaji, Mar 28 (UNI) The Goa government will examine a proposal to constitute Lok Adalats for speedier disposal of disputes, related to payment of arrears of electricity bills, which amounted to more than Rs 40 crore so far, in different courts.
Power minister Alexieo Sequeira told the state assembly during question hour that he had already constituted a committee to discuss the modalities for clearing the arrears from consumers.
Speaker Pratapsingh Rane suggested that court may take 30 years for disposal of cases and hence the government should explore the possibility of opening Lok Adalats for speedier disposal of the cases.
He had also directed the authorities to write off electricity arrears of all panchayats in the state except the richer ones like Calangute.
