Five people killed when sand laden lorry ran over them

Mandya, Karnataka, Mar 28(UNI) Five people were killed when a sand laden lorry ran over them near Malavalli in the District in the early hours of today.

Police said that the victims were pushing their two wheelers, which got punctured, to Hosahalli village from Doddahalli village to attend a festival when the lorry hit them from the backside. In the impact the lorry overturned and the driver escaped from the scene.

While four people were killed on the spot, one person succumbed to injuries at Malavalli Government hospital.

The deceased were identified as Shivakumar (22), Ramesh (25), Sanne Gowda (24), Sidde Gowda (40) and Basavanna (25).

Though the accident took place in the wee hours, the incident was reported to police today morning by the villagers who noticed.
