Fire Brigade issues notices to 27 multiplexes
Mumbai, Mar 28 (UNI) The Mumbai Fire Brigade has issued notices to 27 multiplexes after surveying 450 establishments here for not adhering to safety norms.
Chief Fire Officer B V Sawant today said the department has issued the notices after it conducted a survey of the city establishments following the recent Retiwala Estate fire tragedy in which ten were killed 59 others injured.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishore Gajbiye today admitted that the civic body does not have a system to conduct annual inspections of the establishments. The assistant municipal commissioners of each ward have, however, been instructed to conduct surveys and take actions accordingly in their jurisdiction.
''The commercial establishments require various licences to conduct businesses and if there is any violation, the licences will be cancelled,'' Mr Gajbiye said.
The Municipal Corporation has also requested the services of the Controller of Explosives in Nagpur and the Director of Industries in order to conduct surveys.
