Hyderabad, Mar 28 : The Communist Party of India (CPI) rules out the possibility of the formation of 'third alternative' a sign of Left and democratic unity in the country before 2009 elections.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said on Friday, "I do not think third alternative will come into existence so early. It is our longer perspective to build a third political alternative based on common struggles on people's issues."

He added, "If we could make the third alliance before elections, I will be happy. If not, we will go for state-specific alliances taking political situations of the State into consideration. But at the moment, we are only focusing on common struggle by public like price rise and farmers' plight."

The Left would work with other secular and democratic forces to prevent BJP from coming to power, said Bardhan.
