Bird flu outbreak in Jalpaiguri

New Delhi, Mar 28 (UNI) The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries of West Bengal Government has notified outbreak of Avian Influenza among poultry in Jalpaiguri district of the state.

According to an official release issued here today, the department has chalked out containment operations to check the outbreak of birdflu which was affecting the poultry industry in the state.

Earlier, the Department had notified English Bazar block of Malda district as infected but now Jalpaiguri Sadar Block in Village Sabeber Kamar, Sampukuripara also showed some cases.

House-to-house surveillance within the 0-3 km was on. Surveillance data is, however, awaited.

Animal husbandry workers involved in containment operations were under medical supervision and chemoprophylaxis.

Adequate stock of Oseltamivir, personal protective equipments have been made available with the state/district authorities, the release said.

There is no suspect case of human avian influenza and the situation was being monitored, it added.
