3.70 lakh die annually from tuberculosis
Ujjain, Mar 28 (UNI) About 3.70 lakh people, mostly of 15-54 years, die on an average annually from tuberculosis in the country and about 17 crore people are unable to function normally due to the ailment.
National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme adviser Naresh Purohit, who hails from Ujjain, revealed the facts in his research paper during a seminar in Ludhiana recently.
He claimed that about one lakh women faced harassment in their in-laws' home due to the disease. Besides, about three lakh patient children were also victims of social harassment.
Mr Purohit said despite free medicine facility for tuberculosis patients by the government, people were not able to take full benefit.
