3 charred to death as fire devours LIC office in Barasat
Kolkata, Mar 28 (UNI) Three people were burnt alive and some injured as fire devoured a Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) building near the Dak Bungalow crossing in Barasat, North 24 Parganas today.
Firemen, who entered the building to rescue the trapped people came out with as many as three charred male bodies. The bodies were sent to the district hospital, Fire Brigade sources said.
''Two of the dead were LIC agents while the third is yet to be identified,'' North Barasat Additional SP Sugato Sen told reporters.
''Though the blaze was brought under control, it continued to smoulder,'' sources at the Divisional Fire Brigade Control said.
Several motor cycles and vans parked in front of the building were burnt as fire clinkers fell on them. The fire spread rapidly once the fuel tanks burst.
