130 deaths due to electrocution during 2007-08
Hyderabad, Mar 28 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Energy and Coal Minister Mohd Ali Shabir said 130 people died due to electrocution in various districts of the state during 2007-08.
Replying to a question raised by B Kamalaker Rao (Cong) in the Legislative Council during Question Hour, he said Khammam district accounted for 21 deaths followed by Rajahmundry with 18 and Guntur with 12.
The minister said the amount spent by Distribution Companies (DISCOM) for repair works was more than the amount approved by the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission.
He said several safety measures like erection of intermediate poles, rectification of leaning poles, stringing of loose lines, replacement of DTR neutral wire and earth wire and replacement of damaged conductor were being taken up regularly to avert electrical accidents by all the DISCOMs in the state.
