Imphal, Mar 27 (UNI) Former Manipur Chief Minister and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing today extended gratitude to all for re-electing him to the Upper House.

Mr Rishang also stated that this might be his last stint in the political arena.

The 88-year-old veteran is the oldest MP in the Rajya Sabha as well as Lok Sabha.

In the election held yesterday Mr Rishang got 49 votes while the National People's Party nominee B D Behring garnered just eight votes.

Only 59 out of the 60 MLAs cast their votes yesterday as R K Anand of the Manipur People's party (MPP) was absent.

The Congress has 31 MLAs, the CPI four and RJD (three). Hence Rishang got some votes from the Opposition side.

Mr Rishang thanked the Independent MLAs for supporting him.

Rishang Keishing has the unique distinction of being elected to the Lok Sabha in the 1952 General Elections from Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency and he was re-elected to the Lower House again in 1962.
