Chandigarh, March 27 (UNI) The Gurgaon kidney scandal rocked the Haryana assembly today as the opposition INLD cried hoarse on the issue, forced the Speaker to adjourn the House once and staged a walkout twice.
During the Zero hour, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) members demanded an inquiry to ascertain the role of Haryana Congress MP Jai Prakash in the scandal in the light of the statement of Dr Upendra, one of the accused in the case, that an MP named Jai Prakash was associated in the racket.
However, Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian said the CBI was already investigating the case and the matter was sub-judice. Therefore, there could not be a discussion on the issue.
INLD member Sita Ram, who raised the issue, demanded that it must be ascertained as to who was the MP under cloud. It may be recalled that Hisar MP Jai Prakash had denied his role in the scam and said there were three MPs with the same name.
The INLD members came to the well of the House and shouted slogans and demanded a statement by the government on the issue.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala said the INLD MLAs tended to stall the proceeding of the House daily on one pretext or the other. He maintained that the Government was ready to make a statement on the issue but it was improper on their part to block the proceedings.
The Speaker, however, remained firm that no discussion could be allowed on the issue and tried to pacify the agitated INLD members.
However, the INLD members did not go back to their seats despite the Chair's repeated pleas, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for ten minutes.
