Female rower Mamata bags Ekalavya Award
Bhubaneswar, Mar 27 (UNI) Female rower Mamata Jena has bagged the prestigious 15th Ekalavya Award for the year 2007.
Mamata Jena was among the thirteen shortlisted candidates selected by the Ekalavya Award Committee consisting of jury members drawn from different walks of life.
The award which carries a cash prize of one lakh and a citation, would be presented to Mamata Jena later at a function here, according to a release issued by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT), a charitable wing of IMFA Group.
Mamata has a brilliant track record for the past two years winning bronze in open women cox less fours in 11th Asian Rowing Championship held at Hyderabad.
She has fared well in many International events including 15th Asian games held at Doha in November, 2006 and won Gold medals in the National Rowing championship in 2006 and 2007.
The Ekalavya award instituted by the largest integrated Ferro Alloys Producer in the country in 1993, is being given every year in recognition of outstanding performance in sports.
Besides Ms Jena, talented chess player Kiran Manisha Mohanty and athlete Dandu Soren would also be conferred citations and a cash prize money of Rs 10,000 each for their remarkable performances in various State level and National level championship in their respective fields during the last two years.
