DMK MLA creates flutter, stage dharna inside Assembly premises
Puducherry, Mar 27 (UNI) Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislator Rajaraman today created a flutter when he, along with three supporters observed a 'dharna' near the main gate of the legislative Assembly today, demanding action against a policeman, who allegedly assaulted him.
With the budget session in progress, security personnel were intructed not to allow anyone inside the premises without a valid pass.
When Mr Rajaraman and his supporters walked into the assembly premises, the head constable on duty, Babu, attached to the SIGMA wing, asked the DMK legislator to show the passes of his supporters, on which he picked up a quarrel with the police constable leading to fisticuffs.
Following the incident, Mr Rajaraman sat on a dharna preventing the entry of vehicles into the assembly premises. Welfare Minister M Kandasamy and several legislators rushed to the spot in support of Mr Rajaraman and criticised the attack on him.
Senior police officials held talks with him and assured to initiate action against the head constable following which Mr Rajaraman called off his stir.
The incident echoed in the House with all the members, including ministers, barring those evicted remaining inside the assembly hall even after the Hosue was adjourned.
When Speaker announced the adjournment of the House for the day after Mr Rangasamy concluded his budget speech, the members raised the issue and wanted action against the policeman. They remained inside the hall even after Speaker and Chief Minster left.
Both the Speaker and Chief Minister held talks in the chamber of the former and invited the members inside after ten minutes. They asked Mr Rajaraman to give a written complaint and assured action.
Mr Rajaraman gave a written complaint, which was forwarded to the Director-General of Police.
Meanwhile, SSP Srikanth held talks with Rajaraman and arrived at an amicable settlement into the issue.
