8 die in MP temple stampede
Ashoknagar, MP, Mar 26 (UNI) Eight people were killed and about a dozen severely injured this evening in a stampede during an annual fair in the Sita temple premises at this district's Kareela, about 20 km from here, police said.
The injured were admitted to the District Hospital and there was an apprehension of increase in fatalities.
The number of people at the fair was much higher than expected, leading to a collapse in arrangements.
The immediate cause of the stampede was a broken railing.
The District Collector, Superintendent of Police and other senior officers rushed to the spot.
People seek boons at the shrine and when those are fulfilled, bedanias are hired to perform the Rai dance.
