Two dead in fire at Savarkundla

Rajkot, Mar 26 (UNI) Two persons died and two others sustained burns in a huge fire that gutted a Kerosene godown at Savarkundla in Amreli district of Gujarat today.

According to police, the fire broke out in a tanker, filled with light diesel Oil (LDO), parked along a kerosene godown near Essar Petrol pump on Amreli road. The godown was subsequently engulfed in flames, police said.

Officials said three fire tenders were pressed into service and the flames were brought under control after battling for four hours.

The incident occurred around 07.15 hrs this morning, police said.

The injured, including the owner of the kerosene godown Bharat Pandit, were shifted to Rajkot civil hospital in a serious condition, police said.

Police have cordoned the entire area near the mishap site.

The deceased were identified as Manubhai Jaitabhai and Sinkandar Dadubhai, police said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
