Societies on forest land get relief for 3 months
Mumbai, Mar 26 (UNI) Residents of housing societies constructed on forest land in eastern and western suburbs of the city have got relief for three months.
Advocate General Ravi Kadam today submitted before the High Court division bench comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice S C Dharmadhikar that the Government will not take action against the societies, which were constructed on such land, for the next 12 weeks.
The Government submitted the reply in wake of an application filed by builders and residents seeking time to challenge the High Court's recent order.
The High Court had said that the societies which had come up on forest land were illegal and the Government had the power to transfer the land to the Forest Department.
The court's order had scared the residents of Borivali, Kandivali, Mulund, Bhandup and Thane. The order, if implemented, will affect more than 1.5 lakh families living in these areas.
