Pondy budget to be presented on Mar 27

Puducherry, Mar 26: Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, holding the finance portfolio, will present the budget for the year 2008-09 in the territorial assembly tomorrow at 0930 hrs.

This would be Mr Rangasamy's seventh successive budget and he holds the record for presenting seven successive budgets ever since the formation of the Territorial Assembly in Puducherry in 1964.

Earlier, Mr M O H Farook and Mr V Vaithilingam have presented five budgets each.

On the lines of his last six budgets, the one to be presented tomorrow Is also expected to be tax-free.

With the Union Territory opening its public account with the Reserve Bank of India and the latter monitoring the revenue receipts and expenditure transactions on a daily basis, there might not be much announcements or provision of freebies in the budget.
