JD (U) demands all-party committees at taluk level
Bangalore, Mar 26 (UNI) The Janata Dal (United) today urged the Karnataka Governor to set up all-party committees at taluk levels for providing relief measures to those affected by unseasonal rains during the last one week in the State.
In a letter to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, JD (U) General Secretary M P Nadagouda said the State Government should also approach the Centre for additional funds to take up relief works as several people have lost their lives and several others have suffered extensive damage to houses and crops in many districts.
The committees should work at the taluk level till the next elected Government assumes power in the State, he said.
He estimated the loss of commercial crops like grapes in the rains in the districts of Bagalkot and Bijapur at Rs 600 crore.
