Efforts on to save Vandana

Agra, Mar 26 (UNI) Efforts were underway today to rescue Vandana, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, who had fallen into a 45-ft deep boring well in Saiya area here.

The minor was still fighting for life, sources said.

Till afternoon, a 45-foot-deep parallel pit was dig up by the Army Jawans.

In an akin incident two years back, the Army Jawans had rescued one Prince of Haryana from a well.

Now, everybody was hoping the same for Vandana, who yesterday evening accidently fell into the boring well which was temporarily covered with mud at village Tehra, District Magistrate Mukesh Meshram said.

Army jawans were digging a parallel pit at a distance of 5 ft to take out Vandana.

The army jawans dig the pit first with machine and then with their fingers, but unluckily, the girl had slipped down to 2 ft from where she was stuck earlier.

The rescue team, comprisimg medicos, was continuously supplying oxygen, glucose and few eatables through a rope to the minor.

The DM said, ''a month back, a 180 ft deep bore well was digged up, but later it was temporarily covered.'' Yesterday while playing, Vandana slipped into the bore well and got stuck at 45 ft, Mr Meshram added.

Firstly, the villagers tried to save the girl, but on failing brought the matter into notice of the administration.

Army was pressed into service after police team failed to save the girl.
