CPI against land acquisition in Bastar

Hyderabad, Mar 26 (UNI) The Communist Party of India(CPI) in its 20th ongoing National Congress today adopted a resolution on the displacement of tribal people from Bastar in Chhattisgarh, demanding that the Government stop acquiring tribal peasants' lands in the region for Industrialisation.

Expressing concern over the displacement of more than 3.5 lakh tribal people from nearly 600 villages in the Bastar region owing to the ''onslaught'' of 'Salwa Judum,' the CPI demanded its immediate withdrawal and closure of the security camps.

They also demanded that the displaced villagers be allowed to go back to their villages and hold 'Gram Sabha' meetings for proper implementation of 'Tribal Rights Act' in Bastar.

''In the name of Industrialisation and development of Bastar, thousands of acres of agricultural lands belonging to the tribals were being acquired for Multinational companies,'' the resolution added.
