BSF expedition to Mt Kanchanjunga flagged off
New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) A 25-member expedition of the Border Security Force (BSF) to world's third highest peak, Mt Kanchanjunga, was flagged off today.
BSF Director General A K Mitra, while flagging off the team, claimed that though Mt Everest was the highest peak, climbing it was easier than ascending Mt Kanchanjunga.
The team, led by assistant commandant N Satish Chandra will leave the National Capital today to reach the Indo-Nepal border on April 1. After setting up a camp on the foot of the 28,170 feet peak, the team would start its ascent on April 5. ''We propose to climb the peak by May 30 depending on snow and weather conditions,'' said the team leader.
Mr Mitra said unlike past expeditions, new people have volunteered. ''It is good to see new officers coming up for the expedition,'' he added.
