BJP councillor held in Pathar gate riot case
Vadodara, Mar 26 (UNI) Two persons, including BJP councillor Nitin Patel, were arrested today in connection with the recent communal violence at Pathar gate area here.
At least a dozen people, including three policemen, were injured in stone - pelting between members of two communities and subsequent police lathicharge after a minor bike accident triggered the violence.
The violence sparked off when the mob set the bike, involved in the accident, on fire. Soon after the incident, police arrested 13 persons, including former BJP corporator Bhupendra Kachhia, on rioting charges.
However, BJP councillor Patel, who was arrested along with another accused Amrish Patel, was later released on bail.
Patel claimed that he had been falsely implicated in the rioting case. He had also drawn attention of the state party high command and city police commissioner to the ''police excesses'' and demanded action against the Navapura police inspector.
