Angry mob attacks police station

Sagar, MP, Mar 26 (UNI) A police station was 'gheraoed' and vandalised by a crowd angry over a girl today being crushed to death by an oil tanker at this district headquarters, police said.

Sakshi (7) was crushed to death by the tanker while she was playing with her sister Nikita (5) near Motinagar square at around 1030 hours. Nikita was injured during the incident.

Following the incident, angry people 'gheraoed' Motinagar police station and pelted stones on it. Besides, it looted cash from the cabin of a petrol pump. Police vehicles and other vehicles were ransacked. An attempt was made to set the petrol pump on fire.

Station House Officer Nawal Sharma opened four rounds of fire in air from private rifle to disperse the crowd. Six tear gas shells were lobbed. Two women policemen were injured Collector Rajesh Kaul and Additional Superintendent of Police Tilak Singh reached the spot with additional police force.

BJP legislator Sudha Jain demanded inquiry into firing into air by police.
