2 feared killed in huge Dubai fire
Dubai, March 26 (UNI) At least two people were feared killed in a massive explosion in a firecracker warehouse in Al Quoz area here this morning causing losses estimated at Dirham 600 million, the Khaleej Times reported.
Many warehouses closeby were also gutted as firemen battled to control the flames. The massive explosion, Civil Defense officials said occurred at about 0700 hrs followed by minor explosions, causing a massive fire in a cluster of warehouses in the vicinity.
At least 20 firefighting units and personnel were deployed to put out the blaze. Police cordoned off all the roads leading to the area and at least 10 rescue units were rushed to the spot. Grand Mall, which is located very close of the accident site was immediately evacuated as a preventive measure.
The Al Quoz industrial zone is home to hundreds of factories and warehouses in the booming emirate, which has established itself as a regional business and tourism hub. It was not known if any Indian was among the victims.
Major traffic jams were reported all across the city and on roads that connect the other emirates to Dubai.
