11 prisoners escape from police custody

Ahmedabad, Mar 26 (UNI) As many as eleven prisoners escaped after attacking three policemen near Vasad village on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Express Highway today.

According to sources close to Vadodara police, 11 prisoners from the Sabarmati Central Jail were taken to Halol, near Vadodara, to appear for a court hearing.

The prisoners while on their way back to Ahmedabad this afternoon, attacked the policemen, who were escorting them, with their hand-cuffs when the police van reached Koyacha Bridge near Vasad village on the highway.

The police personnel were seriously injured in the attack.

A statewide alert has been sounded and a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the fugitives.

Later, one of them was apprehended, police sources said.
