Sreerampur India Jute Mill authority suspend work

Hooghly, Mar 25 (UNI) The Sreerampur India Jute Mill authorities issued a suspension of work notice outside the premises here today, following which 5,000-odd workers staged an agitation.

On behalf of the jute mill authorities, the company's Personnel Manager Sunil Agarwal stated in the notice that due to prolonged agitation and non-cooperation by the workers in the mill, they have been forced to close down the unit altogether.

Earlier, the management, in order to tackle the agitation, had tried to shut down a unit of the mill. But, on the face of the growing resistance from the workers, they were forced to shut down the complete unit, the notice stated.

Following the closure of the unit, at least 5,000 workers are jobless.

These workers agitated in front of the mill this morning.

Police have been deployed to tackle the situation in front of the mill premises.
