One infiltrator killed near LoC in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 25 (UNI) Troops gunned down a militant immediately after sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Keran sector in Jammu and Kashmir, a defence ministry spokesman said.

He said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side early this morning under the cover of darkness.

When challenged and asked to surrender near a particular place on this side of the border, militants opened fire. Troops also returned the fire and killed the infiltrator.

One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant, he said.

Official sources said about 1500 militants are waiting in launching pads near the LoC across the border to sneak into this side.

More than 50 militants were killed last year after they infiltrated into this side from PoK. About 100 others, including their family members surrendered before the troops after their return from PoK during the same period.
