MCX clocks total turnover of Rs 5867.61 cr

Mumbai, Mar 25 (UNI) Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) clocked a total turnover of Rs 5867.61 crore in 78,550 trades.

MCX Comdex, the composite index of metals, energy and ago-commodities, was up by 0.21 pc at 2653.84 points.

MCX Metal gained 1.67 pc at 2958.26 points, while Agri lost 0.37 pc.

Bullion turnover consisted of gold Rs 2254.49 crore, with a volume of 18,713 kgs and open interest of 10,282 kgs and silver clocked a turnover of Rs 1162.44 crore, volume of 5,12,380 kgs and open interest of 2,13,085 kgs. Gold June 08 contract gained 1.21 pc at Rs 12103 per 10 grams among all other gold contracts which also gained in varying degrees.

Silver contracts recorded impressive gains with silver September 08 contract gaining 2.82 pc at Rs 23,375 per kg.

In metals, all contracts gained except tin March 08 and May 08 which lost 0.61 pc and 1.53 pc respectively. Nickel March 08 contract gained 2.26 pc at Rs 1177.50 per kg and zinc April 08 contract gained 2.19 pc at Rs 95.80 per kg.

Most agricultural contracts showed a downward trend. Refsoyoil, chana, turmeric, sugarsklp, kapaskhali, menthe oil, potato (Agra and TRWR) and jute contracts were marked by losses. Only two contracts in pepper gained. Cardamom contracts gained with June 08 contract improving by 2.45 pc at Rs 563.50 per kg.

Silver September 08 contract topped the list of gainers with a 2.82 pc rise at Rs 23,375 per kg followed by a 2.40 pc rise at Rs 23,095 per kg of silver M June 08 contract.

Turmeric May 08 contract led the losers with 3.01 pc decline at Rs 3,354 per quintal.

Gold April 08 contract clocked a volume of 16,389 kgs and nickel March 08 contract 866,250 kgs, MCX release said.
