3 Gujarati smugglers held with charas in JK

Jammu, Mar 24: Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested three Gujarat based narcotic smugglers and recovered 55-kg of charas from their possession worth Rs 20 lakh in the international market in Samba district of the state, official sources today said.

On tip off, a special nakka was laid down yesterday near village Mansar of the district. ''A vehicle bearing registration number of Gujarat was intercepted by the police party and during frisking 55-kg of charas was recovered from a fabricated vehicle specially designed for smuggling drugs,'' Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Samba, Rajinder Gupta told UNI.

He said while the vehicle was being searched, three narcotic smugglers travelling in it managed to escape to nearby Mansar village.

Later, police parties conducted searches in the village and all the smugglers were arrested. They have been identified as Mohd Zakar(35), resident of Mirzapur, a kingpin of the narcotics racket, Mohd Sharief(35), resident of Shahpur, both from Ahmedabad and Naseer Syed(25), resident of Surat, Gujarat.

The arrested smugglers have disclosed that the woman from Anantnag was running the narcotics racket while the consignments of drugs were being smuggled from Khanabal, Anantnag to New Delhi.
