SPA leaders agree to bury the hatchet ahead of polls

Kathmandu, Mar.24 : Seven Party Alliance (SPA) leaders on Monday reached an understanding to strictly check the violent confrontations and forceful activities of their cadres during the election time.

At a meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala in Baluwatar, the leaders discussed issues related to violation of code of conduct and agreed to cooperate with each other to make sure the April 10 constituent assembly are held fairly and peacefully, the NepalNews reported.

However, Nepal Workers and Peasant Parties (NWPP) did not attend the meeting.

The meeting was mainly focused on minimising violent clashes among the party cadres in various districts, leaders said.

The SPA meeting came amid reports of violence during the election rallies of the political parties, especially the attacks on election candidates and campaigners of opposition parties by Maoist cadres.

Koirala had on Saturday had stressed the need to sustain the SPA unity and cooperation among the political parties to ensure fair, free and peaceful elections.
