6th Pay Commission submits report to Finance Minister

New Delhi, Mar 24: The sixth pay commission report was submitted to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram here today. Indications are that the Central Government employees are going to receive a hefty hike in pay packets soon. The Commission, headed by Justice B N Srikrishna personally submitted the report to Mr Chidambaram at his North Block office.

According to Souces, the Commission had recommended merger of Dearness Allowances with basic pay, higher housing rent and transport allowances for the Central government employees besides the Defence and Para-Military staff. The Finance ministry will consider the report and will submit its recommendations to the union cabinet. With general elections round the corner, the government is likely to accept the recommendations without any cut. The hike would be effective from January, 1, 2006 as per the prevailing practice.
