Shigmotsav 2008 to be celebrated in Goa from March 27

Panaji, Mar 24 (UNI) The four-day ''Shigmotsav 2008'' will be celebrated here from March 27.

Panaji Shigmotsav Samiti President Srinivas V Dempo, speaking to reporters here today, said about 150 groups are expected to participate in different events such as ''Chitrarath (floats)'', folk dance, ''romta mell'', fancy dress competitions and such others, and cash awards and rolling trophies will be presented to the winners.

The aim of the festival is to promote communal harmony in Goa and promote and nurture the traditional folk culture, Mr Dempo said.

Well-known folk instrumentalist Jairam Pandurang Raut, Konkani stage actor Gilberto Goes and Marathi stage actor Atmaram Mishal will be felicitated during the festival.

A comedy show ''Gudgulya'' and a ''Lavni'' performance entitled ''Ishkachi Ingli'' will be presented by Kalaranjan Nirmiti of Mumbai on the concluding day of the event.
