MLA observes fast inside Pondy Assembly

Puducherry, Mar 24 (UNI) AIADMK MLA Om Sakthi Sekhar today caused a flutter when he observed a fast in the Legislative Assembly premises.

The fast was to condemn the government for its alleged failure to provide adequate relief to rain-affected people and proper drainage facilities in his Nellithoppe Constituency.

He sat on the steps at the entrace of the Assembly hall carrying two placards with demands written on them.

Police pickets were posted near the Assembly following the agitation.

Meanwhile, in a release, Mr Sekhar said several areas in his constituency were affected by rainfall.

He said sewer water from other areas were being diverted to his constituency causing the drainage canal to overflow and rainwater intrude into the houses.

Though the administration was apprised of the problem and remedial measures sought for years, no action had been taken.
